History
Desenvolve as seguintes actividades: apoio alimentar, actividades de animação e cultura, centro comunitário, apoio social, encaminhamento e informação, lavandria e transporte.
The Good Sheeper Parish temple was built on January 6, 1887, and since that year has been a place of worship until today. Although two years earlier and in the old Rua do Monte, in the same place, religious services were held by the reverend André Cassels. The founder of this parish was the reverend André Boys Cassels (1849-1931), brother of Diogo Cassels, who was ordained a deacon on July 1, 1891 having received the orders of an elder in 1895.
Together with the Church, André Cassels ordered the construction of a Primary School in which for many decades a remarkable educational and assistance work was carried out for the most disadvantaged populations. The Bom Pastor temple started at the school, constituting a mission attached to the building, in 1885. It was inaugurated on January 6, 1888, a Friday, with more than half a thousand people attending the ceremony. The inaugural sermon was in charge of Robert Moreton - with whom André Cassels always had great relations - Diogo and Guilherme Dias were in charge of the sermons on the following Saturday and Sunday.
The building would undergo major improvements later, such as the construction of a room for the Christian Union of the Youth of Gaia, on October 24, 1908, thus allowing to house this organization, which first appeared in Prado, but whose organization only stabilized when it obtained your own space in Candal.
In 1889 the Congregation of the Good Shepherd was formally organized, which elects a Parish Board and representatives to the Synod of the Lusitanian Church, thus officially joining that Church.
During the twentieth century and at the end of the sixties and the beginning of the seventies, under the guidance of Mr. Bishop Daniel de Pina Cabral at the time parish priest of the Good Shepherd, the Church building undergoes profound remodeling giving way to a space for the worship of lines modern.
Currently, it is in this parish that the Community Center created in 1997 works with the main objective of developing services that respond to the pressing needs of the surrounding community. It develops the following activities: food support, entertainment and cultural activities, community center, social support, routing and information, laundry, and transport.
