Nasceu no Porto, freguesia do Bonfim, em 3 de agosto de 1881 e faleceu no Candal, Vila Nova de Gaia, em 29 de agosto de 1958. Era sobrinho-neto do historiador Alexandre Herculano (de Carvalho Araújo), e além de ministro da Igreja Lusitana, notabilizou-se como jornalista e homem de letras.
Fez parte do Curso Teológico da Igreja Lusitana que funcionou nas dependências da Igreja do Prado, dirigido pelo reverendo Dr. John Harden, de 1903 a 1907. O reverendo Dr. Harden seria mais tarde bispo de Tuam, na Irlanda.
Iniciou a sua carreira como coadjutor do reverendo André Cassels que além da sua igreja do Bom Pastor, no Candal, cujo templo foi inaugurado em 1887. Já a Missão da Madalena teve início em 1905 e manteve-se até 1927, período em que esteve a seu cargo.
Em Viseu o reverendo Araújo fundou o jornal "A Voz da Verdade", mas ao fim de dois anos o jornal acabou por imposição da censura. Em 1931, 18 de dezembro, falece o reverendo André Cassels e o reverendo Bonaparte nomeia-o ministro interino do Candal. Só em 10 de novembro de 1935 tomaria o cargo de ministro desta igreja.
Em colaboração com o reverendo Belarmino Vieira Barata publicou os Relatórios Coletivos da Igreja Lusitana de 1939, 1940, 1941 e 1943/44.
