Diogo (James) Cassels nasceu no Porto em 1844, filho de um negociante britânico que vivia em Portugal. A família estabeleceu-se em Gaia, onde o patriarca John Cassels tinha residência e uma estamparia têxtil. Faleceu a 7 de Novembro de 1923.

Diogo (James) Cassels was born in Porto in 1844, the son of a British businessman who lived in Portugal. The family settled in Gaia, where patriarch John Cassels had a residence and a textile print shop. He died on November 7, 1923.
