John Mason Harden nasceu na Irlanda e foi educado no Trinity College, em Dublin. Instalou-se em 1903 em Vila Nova de Gaia, Coimbrões, para reger o curso teológico do qual sairam alguns presbíteros da Igreja Lusitana como o reverendo Armando Pereira de Araújo, o reverendo António Ferreira Fiandor, o reverendo José Maria Leite Bonaparte, o reverendo Júlio Bento da Silva.
Foi o primeiro ministro do Prado, em 1905-1907, sucedeu-lhe Leite Bonaparte até 1908.
Quando regressou à Irlanda tornou-se Bispo de Tuam, Killala e Achonry entre entre 1927 e 1931.
