A Paróquia do Redentor foi mandada edificar a expensas do reverendo Diogo Cassels e com donativos que conseguiu reunir. Juntamente com a Igreja foram edificadas salas de aula para o ensino primário no sentido de ajudar a combater o forte analfabetismo que se fazia sentir em finais do século passado. Nas salas da escola então edificada prestava-se também um forte trabalho assistencial nomeadamente através da dádiva de alimentos e vestuários.
A comunidade foi organizada em 15 de Abril de 1883 tendo o espaço de culto sido consagrado a Deus em 11 de Março de 1884 pelo Reverendíssimo Lord Plunket então Bispo de Meath e depois Arcebispo de Dublin, Irlanda. O primeiro Pároco foi o reverendo Guilherme Dias – ex. Padre católico Romano, que demonstrou uma enorme capacidade pastoral que se traduzia na realização de diversos cultos dominicais dada a elevada afluência de pessoas.
The Redeemer Parish was ordered to build at the expense of Reverend Diogo Cassels and with donations that he managed to collect. Classrooms for primary education were built with the Church to help combat the strong illiteracy that was felt at the end of the last century. In the rooms of the school then built, there was also a strong assistance work, namely through the donation of food and clothing.
The community was organized on April 15, 1883 and the place of worship was consecrated to God on March 11, 1884, by the Most Reverend Lord Plunket, then Bishop of Meath and then Archbishop of Dublin, Ireland.
The first parish priest was the Rev. Guilherme Dias - ex. Roman Catholic priest, who demonstrated an enormous pastoral capacity that was translated into the realization of several Sunday services given the high number of people.
