Em 1885 foi o benemérito João Cleif que fez entrega à congregação de S. Pedro do templo que, a expensas suas, mandou erigir. Em 24 do mesmo mês e ano, foi o templo solenemente inaugurado. O seu primeiro pároco foi o presidente do sínodo Reverendo Cândido Joaquim de Sousa. Após o falecimento deste foi nomeado Josué Ferreira de Sousa. Interessante é também de referir que, durante o tempo em que a colónia alemã em Portugal esteve privada de ter uma igreja sua e um pastor, era na igreja de S. Pedro que se celebrava o culto divino.
