Margaret Kennedy Cassels foi a segunda filha de Diogo e Isabel Cassels. Nasceu em 1872 e nunca chegou a casar. Aluna aplicada, recebeu lições de seus pais e em 1886 fez exame de instrução primária, de admissão aos liceus e de inglês, tendo sido a melhor aluna. Continuará a ser laureada nos anos seguintes e em 1888 vai estudar para a Alemanha. após o curso dos liceus, lecciona francês e física e química nas Escolas do Torne. A par da atividade letiva, desenvolvia igualmente atividades de cariz cultural e evangélico. Vamos assim encontrá-la cantando árias de ópera em saraus culturais ou participando na Secção Feminina do Esforço Cristão de Gaia, da Comissão feminina de missões ou ainda na Comissão de Recreio e Passeios. Após a morte da mãe, vai ser ela o grande sustentáculo afetivo de Diogo Cassels.
